Remember when 2014 started... not so long ago? We promised you some good stuff over and above the Twitter Quiz. Did we deliver?
The year started slow after our break in 2013... we started by re-introducing you to the SA Trivia quiz again. The 20:00 time-slot was back! Competition was tough though. Most of you reverted to Generations, luckily the actors had a dispute with management, not our fault! (Trevor Noah: "Too soon, bra, too soon!)
We then brought you Ón-TheSpot' where we quizzed people in the streets. Okay, we mainly did Cape Town, but we're working on that.. YouTube is a kind of untapped market in South Africa and we aim to bring you more great content on there before the end of the year. Make sure you subscribe to us HERE and check our Julius video. We aim to shoot some videos at our Tweet-ups in December (still need a hashtag for that).
We also delivered with bringing back Mr Price Sport, giving away R500 vouchers every month! Every month! Ever seen a brand commit like that? They were happy to join us in 2012 when we were just ONE year old, then back in 2014 again. Please go and support them and also give them a cheeky follow on Twitter @MrPriceSport. They have some great stuff online too. Catch the #MPS quiz on the 1st Monday of every month.
We kept updating the blog with information, posting on Google+ every now and then and also did a LIVE Google+ Hangout. Okay, it was a test, but it was kinda fun. We should try that again.
We also sent our first ever newsletter. Obviously we had to call it #DelayedLive, although it was on time as promised. The first one was a test-run and the 2nd Edition was the real deal. We might do a quarterly issue, one for every season. Get on our mailing list to be sure to get your copy. Drop us a mail or DM via Twitter. The #Summer issue might be out in November 2014.
It didn't stop there though, the trending topics and hashtags had to progress. We joined Instagram and started posting tiny pics and little videos. Due to them being owned by another company called Facebook, we then opted to rather join a Twitter owned company called #Vine. Check our little 6-second videos on Vine if you want a laugh. Those videos play right on your Twitter timeline. Check out how we DO IT FOR THE VINE HERE!
We also delivered with another first! We did the quiz in EIGHT of our official languages. From Afrikaans to Zulu (A-Z if you didn't get that reference). The SAT tweeps are the most amazing bunch of tweeps. You enjoy laughing, mostly at our #Engrish, but we still love you. The Afrikaans quiz was quite popular as we got a huge response. That was NOTHING compared to the response we got for our Sotho and Xhosa quizzes though! Wow. You guys are proud South Africans, hey? We'll try to keep doing the quiz in one other language at least one a fortnight (every two weeks, guys).
We have some other sponsors lined-up, so please keep supporting us as we continue to try and improve and bring you something to look forward to and be PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN.
Remember, one of the reasons the QuizMaster started SAT in 2011 was to educate people on all things South African, inform people on news and try and get people to either watch news or read news (or books). Did it work? Did we achieve anything to date to make a difference? Did anyone learn anything from SAT, ever?
Either way, we at SA Trivia, would like to say THANK YOU for the support this year. Thanks for sticking with us. We promise more good things to come. Let's get brand South Africa out and about!
Love ya!
QuizMaster
P.S. - Take it easy on me, Grammar Police. Also, you can meet me, the QuizMaster, at one of our Tweet-ups over the holidays (after exams and what-not)
